Prestigious Gramophone Award for Lotta Wennäkoski CD

The CD of music by Lotta Wennäkoski  won the British Gramophone Award for the best release in the contemporary category. The disc by the Finnish RSO, conducted by Nicholas Collon, was released by Ondine and includes three works: Flounce, Sedecim and the harp concerto Sigla. The soloist in the concerto is Sivan Magen.
The Avanti! Chamber Orchestra has also released a new Wennäkoski disc entitled “Zeng”, including four works by her.
The BBC Symphony Orchestra and violinist Ilya Gringolts premiered Lotta’s violin concerto Prosoidia  on 3 November – a co-commission involving also the Lahti and the Norrlandsoperan Symphony Orchestras. Another recent work by Wennäkoski is Ele for clarinet and orchestra  co-commisioned by the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra and Music Vitae.
