Songs of Meena by Olli Kortekangas

Tuuli Takala was the soloist in Olli Kortekangas‘ Songs of Meena for soprano and orchestra which received enthusiastic feedback from the press and audiences alike:”The poems have inspired him to write lyrical, nuanced and also playful orchestral images. Takala’s sparkling soprano floats and creates spellbinding patterns in varying dynamic shades.” The song cycle was premiered in  November 2022 by the Helsinki PO and Tuuli Takala, conducted by Osmo Vänskä. The texts are by Meena Alexander, an Americanised poet of Indian descent.
