Olli Kortekangas premieres

The Saimaa Sinfonietta has commissioned Olli Kortekangas to write a Guitar Concerto to be premiered in Lappeenranta on 14 November with Janne Malinen as the soloist. Other new Kortekangas works include Piir (Border), a blend of poetry and music performed in European cities with a mutual border; first in Valga, on the border between Estonia and Latvia, on 7 May and then in Narva. Next year, Piir will be performed on the border between Italy and Slovenia.
Kortekangas new opera Isfåglarna (Halcyons), setting a libretto in Swedish by Johan Bargum, is scheduled to be premiered in autumn 2024 in Kokkola, followed by a guest performance in Helsinki.

Olli Kortekangas will be celebrating his 70th birthday on 16 May next year.
