Matthew Whittall news

The world premiere of Matthew Whittall’s oboe concerto In the New Light of Spring is on the program of the Vaasa City Orchestra 13. December. The work is a co-commission involving also the Tapiola Sinfonietta. Anni Haapaniemi is the soloist and the concert in Vaasa is conducted by Tomas Djupsjöbacka. Whittall’s previous large-scale work Joy for organ and orchestra was premiered by the Finnish RSO in May and it was later awarded by the Finnish Music Publishers.
Fennica Gehrman has recently published choral works by Whittall such as the large cycle for mixed choir, Songs of Travel, to texts by Robert Louis Stevenson and love is a place, three songs after E. E. Cummings.
Matthew Whittall will be 50 years old in January 2025.
