His breakthrough came in 2005 with the premiere of the opera Helsinkiin (To Helsinki) which was based on the short novel of the same name by Juhani Aho. Other major works by him include his Degree Ceremony Cantata and the orchestral cycle Seven Songs for soprano and orchestra to poems by Saila Susiluoto. In 2000-01 Pasi Lyytikäinen was composer-in-residence of Lapinlahti Municipality and taught composition part-time in the Kuopio Department of the Sibelius Academy. In 2020 Pasi Lyytikäinen finished his monologue opera Der unveröffentlichte Film der Eva Braun (The Unpublished Tape of Eva Braun), a 35 minute work for soprano and chamber ensemble of 9 players. It is an absurd, surreal description of the aging Eva Braun tracing her life, choices, emotions, regrets and forgotten dreams. This highly entertaining show also has its dramatic, more serious turns. The German libretto by Maritza Núñez is also available in English and Spanish. The opera was premiered at the Helsinki Contemporary Opera Festival (Helsingin oopperakesä) in 2021.
