Carita Holmström: Catacombs for string quartet

The inspiration for Catacombs (2005), a string quartet by Carita Holmström came from her visit to the 2000-year-old catacombs where the Christians of that time were hiding from the Roman persecution. The composer tells: “The atmosphere and history of that place gave me the idea to tell the story of a spiritual journey of a haunted group of people rising from their underground dwelling up to daylight, freedom and hope.
