Fennica Gehrman’s new collection Repertoire Treasures for Pianists presents 53 works by 41 composers, inviting pianists of all levels to discover inspiring music from five centuries.

“What shall I play next? What could I perform?” These questions, posed by editors Meri Louhos, Hui-Ying Liu-Tawaststjerna and Carlos Juris in their preface, lie at the heart of the new publication. Although the history of piano music grows richer every day, the same works often recur from one anthology to another. This collection offers an alternative: a carefully curated path into less frequently performed repertoire from the Baroque era to the present.

The editors have deliberately avoided categorising the pieces as “easy” or “difficult”. Instead, they encourage each pianist to find music that suits the moment, the occasion and their own needs. The pieces can be explored in lessons or independently, enjoyed in private or prepared for performance. As the preface reminds readers, the most demanding work is not always the most meaningful choice: a musical and well-prepared performance can be uplifting at any level.

Lovingly selected by the editorial team behind the Piano Key series, the collection brings together beauty, memorable rhythms, character and consolation. It is designed both for piano teaching and for pianists expanding their repertoire independently.

The selection includes music by eight women composers, as well as an arrangement by Clara Schumann, broadening the perspectives represented in the repertoire.
