new duettini editions

New Duettini publications bring Colourstrings chamber music to a wider audience

Beloved violin duets by László Rossa and Géza Szilvay are now available in new editions designed for teachers and students both within and beyond the Colourstrings community. The publications make the pedagogical chamber music of the Colourstrings tradition accessible in both Colourstrings notation and conventional black-and-white notation.

The new Colourstrings Duettini I and II for two violins significantly expand the available repertoire for early chamber music teaching. With the new editions, a total of 38 entirely new and previously unpublished duos are now being made available. The collections respond to a clear need from teachers for material that enables young players to experience ensemble playing from the beginning of their studies. Viola and cello versions are also in preparation.

Community through chamber music

In his foreword, Géza Szilvay describes chamber music as central to the Colourstrings approach: “A primary aim of Colourstrings is to create community through playing chamber music.” He also emphasizes the encouraging role of the duos for beginners: “These duos invite the child to play with peers, friends or teacher from the very first lesson.”

Duettini I and II are arrangements of exercises, melodies, and songs from the Colourstrings Violin ABC books. The first violin part is written for the beginner, while the second violin part is intended for an advanced pupil or teacher, making the duos suitable for lessons, group teaching, and early concert experiences.

The editions are easy to identify by title: publications bearing the word “Colourstrings” use Colourstrings notation, while titles marked simply as Duettini use traditional notation. The conventional editions are suitable for all schools and teaching approaches, regardless of previous experience with the Colourstrings method.

Earlier Duettini collection for two violins and for two cellos are available at a reduced price in the online shop while stocks last.
