Matei Gheorghiu: War Nocturne for violin, violoncello and piano

Matei Gheorghiu’s (b. 1984) War Nocturne for violin, violoncello and piano was comissioned by the Ilmari Hannikainen Piano Chamber Music Competition 2026. In this 6-minute work the composer looks at the conflict between Israel and Gaza from a sad and outsider perspective: “I don’t like forcing a direction or theme to the music.
