Roope Mäenpää – a versatile talent to keep in mind

Mäenpää’s Luovus  was recently performed  by the Canadian National Arts Centre Orchestra. What is special about the work is the yoik part, composed for Niillas Holmberg, a Sámi multi-artist. The Sámi are the only European population group by the status of indigenous people.
Roope Mäenpää (born in 1990) is a composer name to keep in mind. The focus of his work is today in art music, but his wide-ranging background has been important as he likes to work with many different aesthetics. The broad perspective is reflected in Mäenpää’s oeuvre. His lovely Insect Symphony reaches out to young listeners. There is also a narrator alongside the symphony orchestra as well as lovely illustrations to be included in the performance.
